Day 25/10: On The Road To Piraeus, Greece

Today is our only sea day. We asked for breakfast to be delivered at 0900, expecting to sleep in. Of course, when there is no reason to get up early, I always wake early. I got up around 0730 and tried to be as quiet as possible. I went down to the Executive Lounge and got a cup of coffee and an English muffin. T awoke around 0830. Ashok arrived with our Champaign breakfast at 0900.

After breakfast, we decided to go down to visit the on-board shops. Being the only sea day of the voyage, this is the only day the shops are open. There were three shops and it did not take long for T to go through them. Nothing was tempting to her. Whew!

We then went out on the deck and soaked up some rays until about noon when T decided she had had enough. We retired to the room and chilled out until our 1330 Italian wine tasting class.

Looking at the map of our course on the TV, it appears we are moving through the Grecian islands like a drunken sailor. Looking outside, there are islands everywhere. Most of them are desolate rocks with no vegetation.

The wine tasting was interesting. We had tasted two from Tuscans, a Super Tuscan, one from Piedmont and one from Veneto. The Super Tuscan was most like the Napa Valley we are familiar with. The Bolla from Veneto was very good also.

After the wine tasting, we went back out on deck and got another cocktail. I noticed that they had hung three US college banners around the pool. One was from Iowa, another from Georgia Tech and Michigan and the last was from the Kansas State Alumni Association.  I guess the Wildcats are on-board!

We went back to the room and relaxed. We have no dining reservations for this evening and T was wondering if we could get into the Polo Grill. I called the butler and he (it was not Ashok) said he thought everything was booked, but he would check and call back. About 15 minutes later he did call back and said he could get us a “shared” table at 1930. T talked with him and opted to have Ashok call us when he gets back on duty and we will order in from the Polo Grill.

Tonight we are supposed to have our luggage out in the hall by 2200 and be out of our stateroom by 0800 tomorrow morning and off the ship by 0900. We will be taken to our Athens hotel Grande Bretagne where we will stay for the next three nights.

Actually looking forward to getting home to see our finished and perfected backyard, as promised by John.
