Day 24/9: Aghois Nikolaos, Crete, Greece

The ship is supposed to dock in Crete at 1100 hours. All aboard is 1930 with departure at 2000. From the scanty information left for us, we will plan to go ashore. The information says the town is only a five minute walk from the pier. There is an archeological museum within walking distance that we might check out.

I arose a little after 0700 and decided to see if the laundry was available. I found it empty and started a couple of loads ($2/load wash plus $2/load dry). On the way back to the room, I stopped at the Executive Lounge and picked up a couple of cups of coffee for us. By the time I went back to the laundry, there was already a queue of three other guests waiting their turn. There are three washers but one if broken. One lady waiting told me it was broken during the last voyage as well. One small credit we will give this ship, in comparison to the Odyssey, is that they have several laundries and they are much larger with good ventilation and even a couple of chairs to sit in.

We ate had breakfast in the Grand Dining Room. At least today, I got the orange juice I requested. The ship docked at 1100 as advertised.

Around 1130 the Cruise Director came on to say we have been cleared for disembarkation. We went ashore around noon. This is a small port and the distance between the docking site and the city is a matter of a few yards. We decided to go up to the museum and, as expected, it was closed today. T says we ranged about three miles, but several of that was very vertical. T was a good sport, as usual.

Coming back down to sea level, we journeyed around the “lake” and found some interesting little shops. Thankfully, we found something for both the grandkids. I think they will like the Crete souvenirs we got for them. If not, we will keep them!

We returned on board around 1330 and adjourned to the bar. From there, back to the room to enjoy some late afternoon room service. Tonight we dine at the Toscana Grill.
